Back when the production was first done the Narrator was male, as he is here Peter Reeves, who has a pleasant voice and manner and is a pretty good mover.
The brothers aren't quite as individually developed as they have been in revival productions, but Paul Brooke stands out because he wears a pink vest when everyone else is bare-chested and because he isn't quite as skinny as the others.
It's a surprise too to see a young Ian Charleson in a very early role. He doesn't have any solo bits and is very much in the background, but is easily recognisable. As for Joseph himself, those of you familiar with the CD cast recording of the London production of this musical will already know what a fantastic voice Gary Bond had.
And he cuts a handsome figure here in his Sgt Pepper dreamcoat. A really nice find, this, and happily exists in full in the archives. The only change is the addition of a very brief framing device in which the actors begin the film as "teachers" in a school where the "students" become the children's chorus of the musical.

Joseph's brothers are jealous of him for his coat of many colours, a symbol of their father's preference for him "Joseph's Coat". It is clear from Joseph's dreams that he is destined to rule over them "Joseph's Dreams". To get rid of him and prevent the dreams from coming true, they attempt fratricidebut then they sell Joseph as a slave to some passing Ishmaelites "Poor, Poor Joseph"who take him to Egypt. Back home, his brothers, led by Reuben and accompanied by their wives, break the news to Jacob that Joseph has been killed.
They show his tattered coat smeared with his blood — really goat blood — as proof that what they say is true "One More Angel in Heaven". After the Richard Attenborough Jacob leaves, the brothers and their wives happily celebrate the loss of Joseph.
In Egypt, Joseph is the slave of Egyptian tycoon Potiphar. He rises through the ranks of slaves and servants until he is running Potiphar's house. Joseph Joan Coll them sacks of food, but plants a golden cup in the sack of his youngest brother, Benjamin. When the brothers try to leave, Joseph stops them, asking about the "stolen cup".
