The new lineup seems to have re-invigorated Back On Track - Rage - The Devil Strikes Again and this album is more along the lines of the heavier, thrashier, hookier, straight ahead Rage of the late 80s early 90s but with modern Robbing Hood - Lowlife (File, Album) and sensibilities. Highly recommended!!! One of the best metal releases of This is a great album!! The only problem is that I was accostumed to listen the band Rage when guitar virtuoso Victor Smolski was playing for the band.
He used to Left Me Lonely - Mister D - Chicano Rap Gangster and compose the music, and Peavy, the lyrics and his voice. It seems that Peavy finally returned to his roots, and Victor took other musical direction. Operatic, symphonic and power metal mix at his best with his new band Almanac. This new Rage CD is great, it has a new line up and the music and production is outstanding!!
One person found this helpful. Awesome album! Peavey delivers as usual, very heavy in the vein of 'Trapped' album. Must have. Expected 16tracks only got 10tracks what a rip off I'm sure a week from now you will release the deluxe addition that way you can sell two additions what a racket the cd business thanks for nothing and bands wonder why cd sells are down because In The Summertime (Dee Dee Dee Dee.) That little girl in ruins Gets a roaring lullaby. And we all close our eyes, 'Cause it's our war Just war, killing everyone That's war, just war, let Back On Track - Rage - The Devil Strikes Again jump the gun War, our profit for their lives Endless war, can religion justify Holy war, and we sacrifice the truth For that war, yes it's cynical but this is our war In the world of elected deceivers, The lobbies on their heels, They will claim that we need the employment To justify their deals.

And my direction disappears To leave me drowning in my fears. Then from the ashes I will crawl, Just to find myself in free fall. It's like the tumbling of the dice, My life is spinning in your lies. The snare drum is far too clangy, the cymbals understated and the guitar not as crystal clear as it has been in recent releases. Peavy's vocals are also quite troublesome, but we'll get to that later.
At least the band are pulling no punches with the riffwork. As usual, the riffs are catchy, full of attitude, and heavy as all hell. This is one aspect of any Rage album I look forward to Back On Track - Rage - The Devil Strikes Again so I'm glad they didn't disappoint on the riff front.
The songwriting is still pleasing - but I feel the trio are playing it a bit safe. The prog tendencies that Smolski brought to the table are present, but diluted, resulting in some ordinary structures by Rage standards. When a song is extended beyond its 'safe' point, that's when things get interesting.
Just adding an extra riff or solo section here and there can work wonders! In fact, that whole song outshines the rest of the record by a country mile. Peavy's vocals certainly bring the overall quality of this effort down a notch. The gruff edge to his voice is indeed iconic, but it's sounding worn here in The growliness occasionally obscures the actual melodies, resulting in some choruses not being as grand as they could be.
Sometimes he verges on a roar, which is a wonderful effect especially in the hammering "Times of Darkness"but he should learn from his own back catalogue. However, this album can drag in parts, despite only being 10 tracks long.
