As a child Jantaru Blask - Światogor - Tym Co Rodzimej Tradycji Wciąż Wierni took up both the trumpet and the drums, and by high school he was recording himself on his own wire recorder an ancestor of the tape recorder.
He gained quite a reputation on the horn, performing during his post-graduate Army stint and again with the USC Trojan Marching Band in college. He also worked as a songwriter and movie extra, learning all aspects of the entertainment business. By the early '60s he'd built Carmen - Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass - Pop Chronik own home studio. Alpert's friend Sol Lake had written an instrumental entitled "Twinkle Star," which the trumpeter began to record in his studio, overdubbing his horn with very slight delay in order to create the illusion of a full brass section.
After seeing a mariachi band at a bullfight in nearby Tijuana, Mexico, he revamped the tune to match the style, and dubbed the result "The Lonely Bull. It was an instant hit, and both Alpert's career and the label's took off. Having released "Bull" with the name "Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass," he set about finding musicians for his fictional band. His album Whipped Cream and Other Delights became a landmark in the adult contemporary field, defining the sound for the decade.

Not bad, considering the market was being heavily infiltrated, if not practically dominated by the British Invasion. By now, there really was a live, touring edition of the Tijuana Brass, and there was an easily identifiable TJB sound, with its strummed Latin American guitars, twin trumpet leads, delicate marimba or vibes Carmen - Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass - Pop Chronik by Julius Kill Yourself - Micropoint - Exit Mankind Pack (Box Set) of Baja Marimba Band fame in the studioand strong grooves rooted in Latin American music, jazz, and rock.
No other TJB record has as much unbuttoned fun and humor as this one — and not surprisingly, it spent six weeks at number one in There is also an assortment of pop, film, and Broadway standards of the day, all impeccably arranged by Alpertwhose production instincts grew sharper and surer with every release. The result is another highly entertaining hit LP, one that stayed at number one longer than any other Tijuana Brass album nine weeks.
Pepper took over and changed the world. Though not as jazz-flavored as S. Alpert is also quite aware of the brave new world around him; he does a spare, lazy, yet entirely novel-sounding cover version of Sgt. Not quite. Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass shed almost all of the dust of Tijuana on this mellow, richly textured album; one reviewer at the time wrote that Alpert seemed to have exchanged bullrings for wedding rings.
The Western motif on the double-fold album jacket — with Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass in costume — signals this as another companion album to a TV special.
But there is Carmen - Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass - Pop Chronik deeper significance to this LP, for shortly after its release, a Carmen - Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass - Pop Chronikpersonally troubled Alpert disbanded the Brass and retired from music for awhile.
Indeed, stretches of this record reveal a tired group and a leader whose trumpet has lost much of its old zip. His four-year sabbatical over, Herb Alpert returned to the studio creatively refreshed, his trumpet sounding more soulful and thoughtful, his ears attuned more than ever to jazz. The name of his studio group has been shortened to just the initials T. Encouraged by his comeback album, Herb Alpert assembled a new version of the TJB — including a hotshot second trumpeter, Bob Findleyand jazz piano whiz Dave Frishberg — and hit the studio and road in
